NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY IN YOUR OWN HOME
NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY IN YOUR HOME LONDON AND SURREY
This newborn stage is such a fleeting part of a baby's development that is an absolute privilege to capture. Newborn photography is all about your baby being in that super curled up, sleepy stage. The images are magical and it is a very powerful and emotional time to record for a family. Your baby will only be a few days old and will be the most precious thing to you. Being able to provide parents with a visual story of this amazingly magical time is incredibly special.
TOP TIPS TO PREPARE FOR YOUR NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHS
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO HAVE NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN?
The best time for newborn photographs is within the first 10 days of birth. In fact, the sooner the better as they need to be in that really curled up stage. By the 10 day point you will find that they won't be as happy tucking their legs under their tummy, which makes getting the 'newborn look' that bit more difficult to achieve. Ideally, you should aim to have them taken in the first 7 days of birth.
WHERE WILL THE NEWBORN SHOOT TAKE PLACE?
I know just how overwhelming it can feel after giving birth, especially if you have had a difficult delivery. That's why I think it is really important that the shoot should take place in the comfort of your own home, where we can work around your routine and without adding any additional pressures to those first few days out of hospital.
DO I HAVE TO BE IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS?
This is entirely up to you and how you are feeling. It is lovely to have pictures of newborns in the arms of their parents and to have some family portraits with the newborn. However, I always leave it up to you and how you are feeling on the day.
WHAT TYPES OF CLOTHES SHOULD MY BABY WEAR?
Many of the portraits will be taken naked or just with a nappy on. Newborn photography is not only about capturing them in the gorgeous curled up state but their little features too - their hands, feet and little mouths. All of that looks far better with the distraction of any outfits.
WHAT ABOUT HATS?
Most definitely yes! Hats work really well with newborns. I like little hats because whilst they look super cute they also look authentic. Newborns need to wear hats for the first few days to help keep them warm and if it is a super cute one then so much the better! I will bring some hats which you are welcome to use or if you have any cute ones yourself then we can use those as well.
WHAT ABOUT STAGED SHOTS?
I don't do overly staged shots. For two reasons - firstly I shoot everything on film and so I am not a big fan of digital manipulation (e.g. the shot of the baby supporting her head on her elbows which is physically impossible for a baby to do and requires two shots photoshopped together) and, secondly, I want your photographs to be beautiful, genuine and authentic.
I believe that each newborn has an amazing beauty which can be simply and beautifully told; fine art and real life combined. No artificial manipulation required!
WHAT IF I'VE BOOKED BUT MY BABY ARRIVES EARLY/LATE?
I know that babies rarely turn up on time. The key thing is to have a date provisionally booked so that you are in my schedule and then we can work around when your baby decides to make an apperance. I always leave some slack in my schedule for reschedules so don't worry at all.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY AND YOUR SHOOT?
Want to know anything else? Just drop me an email. Your pre-shoot consultation is also a great opportunity to ask any questions about what is involved and how to prepare so that you get the most out of the shoot and have an amazing time. Having a newborn baby is an absolutely wonderful event to celebrate and my aim is to help you celebrate it in style and give you some absolutely stunning lasting photographic memories of this really special time.
HOW TO I BOOK A SHOOT?
Many people schedule their shoot after their 20 week scan to guarantee a date in the diary. As I mention above, don't worry if the date ends up moving to reflect when your baby decides to make an appearance. I always leave some flexibility in my schedule to accommodate early and late arrivals!
